Centuries ago the good people of Fair Isle (in the North Atlantic off the coast of Scotland) started weaving and wearing warm, colorful sweaters to ward off the icy gusts of winter.

Some claim the idea for this distinctive knitting style came from those wild and crazy Vikings. Others credit the Spanish armada. Nobody really knows for sure.
